Elections Calgary

Accessible voting

Each voting station is inspected to ensure they meet our accessibility standards. Use the Where Do I Vote tool (available in Fall 2025) to learn more about accessibility at the voting stations and to help you plan your visit.

Voting assistance

Several supports are available for voters who require assistance to vote:

  • Magnifiers, tactile voting templates, and large-grip pencils are available at voting stations upon request.
  • You can bring someone to a voting station to help you vote. Helpers must be age 18 or older and must complete Form 17, available at the voting station.
  • You can ask an election worker to help you mark your ballot. All election workers are required to maintain secrecy of the vote.
  • You can do a curbside vote if you are unable to enter a voting station. Election workers will bring the ballot(s) outside to an accessible location. Please bring someone who can enter the voting station to alert an election worker to your request. Note: our workers are unable to serve voters in their vehicles and must be on the voting station property.
  • A “Languages Spoken in the Voting Station” sign is posted on the door of every voting station, and lists the languages spoken by election works in your station, who can help to translate instructions or ballot(s).
  • You can use your phone as an assistive device when reviewing forms or marking ballots.

Transportation

Calgary Transit Access customers can pre-book trips to vote at their designated voting stations. Trips can be booked up to four days in advance.

Calgary Transit Access is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed on statutory holidays.

Other voting options

For convenience, eligible voters can choose to vote at any voting station during Advance Vote, but can only vote at their designated station on Election Day.

Care facilities, hospitals and shelters will have on-site voting stations during the Advance Vote. Dates and times are posted at the facility at least 48 hours in advance.

Voters can request a special (mail-in) ballot if they are unable to go to a voting station during Advance Vote or on Election Day. Requests will be accepted starting in August 2025. Voters must meet eligibility requirements to receive a mail-in ballot.

Voting equity

Recent Canadian research suggests that new Canadians are less likely than others to be interested, feel engaged, and participate in municipal elections. Elections Calgary will act in three areas in improve this knowledge gap:

Civic engagement

Election worker

Our research shows immigrant Calgarians have less knowledge on municipal government and elections compared to the provincial and federal government. This is despite immigrant Calgarians overwhelmingly stating that they are highly interested in all levels of government. Elections Calgary will provide information and tools on:

  • the role of local government,
  • what councillors, school board trustees, and the mayor do,
  • the role of other levels of government, and
  • how to participate.

Candidate engagement

Voting sign

The desire to "know" candidates better helps to create a more personal relationship with potential voters. It also gives voters a chance to learn more about their candidates.

Elections Calgary will explore partnerships with civic and community groups, such as the Calgary Public Library. These partnerships will allow residents to learn about their councillor, school board trustee and mayoral candidates.

Voter engagement

Casting a ballot

Elections Calgary will improve information and resources on:

  • where to vote,
  • how to vote, and
  • why your vote is important to Calgary’s future.
